Main Contractor Geoffrey Osborne Ltd
Architect TP Bennett
Sector Residential
Project Type New Build and refurb residential development

Opportunity:

NACWL were selected by Osbornes to design supply and install windows to a residential development on Whitcomb Street, just off of Trafalgar Square. Windows were to be installed into SIPS / brickwork openings, created by others, as well as some into more challenging dormer areas where we were to supply the rainscreen cladding to roof and cheeks. On the ground floor our scope included toggle glazed curtain walling and doors, as well as the “monumental” capped curtain wall screen to the stair core.

The project was always going to be interesting architecturally, with the brickwork sloping in various planes, and the dormers projecting out from the facade line. With our in-house design team, technical knowledge of the products and the close relationships we have with our suppliers, meant that it was a project we targeted from first being asked to tender.

The scope of works included:

  • Schueco FWS 50 + curtain walling systems with internal glass balustrade system
  • Schueco AWS 114 Si top hung bonded vents

Testimonial:

I would like to thank NACWL for the hard work and support during the Hob house project. With your input, we were able to deliver the client’s vision and achieve a striking contemporary design that complimented the surrounding architecture.

Your technical knowledge and flexibility were key to arriving at the most suitable solution and your site teams were helpful in achieving a quality installation.

NACWL are an important part of our supply chain and we look forward to continuing the relationship.

NACWL Proposal

During the tender process it was identified that the window solution, initially raised by the consultant team, would not satisfy the planning requirements as an exposed glass edge was required. We, therefore, worked with Osborne proposed having a curtain wall outer frame with “glazed in” Schueco AWS 115 bonded Vents to achieve the desired aesthetics.

This enabled us to utilise the curtain wall frame to attach a bespoke 250mm deep pressure plate cap to and achieve the feature surround. Initially, we installed the Stickwork to most of the 200+ openings and temporary protected from whether to enable Osborne fit-out to progress whilst the longer lead-in bonded vents were fabricated. We then re-visited all areas to manually install the bonded vents and feature reveals from the scaffold, working closely with the bricklayers to achieve a quality finished product. The ground floor screens incorporated some large double glazed units weighing over 300kg where we utilised a “Oscar” mechanical glass manipulator to install the glass.
